| The earliest known piece of Karatsu ware dates back to the late 1500's. In the half century that followed, an amazing body of work was produced. Though Karatsu ware continued to be produced later as well, the discovery of porcelain effectively relegated it to the back burner, and most Karatsu potters became Arita/Imari potters. Karatsu ware was quite widespread, and pieces have been unearthed in Okinawa, Indonesia, and Thailand.
